Stormers stay coy on Yaqeen call
The Stormers are keeping their selection cards firmly tucked away ahead of Friday night’s historic clash against the All Blacks.
Media speculation has linked Junior Springbok flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed with a possible starting role in the opening match of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour, despite the U20 world champion yet to make a senior appearance for the Stormers.
But assistant coach Rito Hlungwani stopped short of confirming whether the 20-year-old will feature against New Zealand. newsbetting.club
“Yaqeen is training with us. As you know, we normally announce the team later in the week.”

Ahmed is among several Junior Boks who have rejoined the Stormers after helping South Africa retain the Junior World Championship title in Georgia.
Hlungwani also confirmed that loosehead prop Olly Reid is back in training after missing the Stormers XXIII’s opening Currie Cup fixtures.
“Olly Reid is also training with us. Most of the Junior Boks who weren’t involved in the Currie Cup are back training with us.”

The Stormers are also weighing up the fitness of several key forwards ahead of what promises to be a demanding encounter with Scott Robertson’s tourists.
Lock JD Schickerling has resumed training, but Hlungwani admitted the experienced second-rower may not be risked.
“JD is moving around well at training, but we’re not sure if we want to push him for this game.”
There was also encouraging news on Junior Boks captain Riley Norton, who recently returned from an injury he picked up while in the Springbok camp ahead of the Nations Championship.
“Riley is also back running after his injury with the Springboks, but again we’re not sure if we want to risk him this weekend.”

Should Schickerling and Norton not be ready, the Stormers still have several options available in the second row.
“Adré Smith is available, Connor Evans is available, and Ruan Ackermann has played lock before, so we do have options.”
Western Province has a famous history against the All Blacks, highlighted by a legendary 12-11 upset win in 1976.

Coupes interclubs CAF : Horoya et Hafia situés ce jeudi 6 août
LE CAIRE- La Confédération africaine de football s’apprête à procéder au tirage ai sort de ses coupes interclubs. En ligue des champions et en coupe CAF, la Guinée place deux clubs à savoir le Horoya et le Hafia FC, respectivement champion et vice-champion du pays.
Ainsi, les deux représentants seront situés sur leur adversaires pour le tour préliminaire de ces deux compétitions de la CAF. Le tirage au sort sera effectué ce jeudi au Caire en Égypte, à 11h. A cause du manque de stade homologué, Horoya et Hafia seront encore obligés de recevoir leurs matchs à Conakry à l’extérieur du pays. Les deux clubs tenteront cette année d’intégrer les poules, après être éliminés au deuxième la saison dernière.
Sur le plan financer, le vainqueur de la LDC empochera 6 millions de dollars, contre 4 millions pour le gagnant de la coupe CAF. Les clubs éliminés au tour préliminaire toucheront 100 mille dollars selon la Confédération Africaine de football.
A préciser par ailleurs qu’en Ligue des champions Féminine de la CAF, AS Bolonta de Guinée aussi sera située sur ses adversaires, toujours ce jeudi.

Kaizer Chiefs set to raid Stellies again for another player
After having already raided Stellenbosch FC for Langelihle Phili, Amakhosi are keen to go back to the Cape Winelands again. This time Chiefs are said to be interested in signing winger Faiz Abrahams.
According to a source, Chiefs wanted to sign both players at the same time but had to focus on the Phili one, as it proved difficult, with Stellies not keen to lose their star player.
“With the Phili deal now done, the focus is now on Faiz. But will Stellies agree to sell both wingers to the same club at the same time? We would have to wait and see,” said the source.
Abrahams began his career in the youth ranks at Ajax Cape Town, now known as Cape Town Spurs. After the club’s relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Abrahams decided against renewing his contract with Spurs and joined Stellenbosch FC.
The 21-year-old winger enjoyed an outstanding season in Stellies’ Diski Challenge team, scoring 11 goals and winning the DDC Player of the Season award.
He was promoted to the senior team and, ironically, made his debut against Chiefs during the closing stages of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
Stellies sent him on loan to Israeli club Hapoel Kfar Saba for the 2025/26 season, where he scored three goals and made three assists in 11 appearances before returning to South Africa ahead of schedule.
