R4,500 a suite seat to watch Boks

Only 100 of Loftus Versfeld’s 400 private suites will reportedly be occupied for Saturday’s Test between the Springboks and Scotland.

This is due to an ongoing dispute between suite holders and SA Rugby.

The row centres on SA Rugby’s policy for Test matches, which requires host unions to hand over a “clean stadium”, including the suites. Suite holders who already pay annual rental fees must then pay SA Rugby again if they want to use their boxes for Test matches. forestarrow.help

Loftus suite holder Braam Coetzee believes the arrangement is unfair.

“It is ridiculous because I cannot be paying R200,000 for a suite and then have to pay an extra R100,000 for one game,” he told News24.

“Then you must also supply the food and drinks, and when I look at the menu, it is terrible.

“We paid extra last year for the suite, but that was fine because everything was still on us.

“I do not know what SA Rugby is doing, but it is going to be hard to convince people to pay R4,500 per game when there is a standing suite.

“We cannot be in a position to pay R80,000 plus over and above the standing annual rate, along with additional catering costs.”

Juanita da Matta of Silvercrest Events Management said the issue had been raised repeatedly with SA Rugby.

“We have sent several letters to SA Rugby, and I have sent two extra ones,” she said.

“They are not responding and the only feedback we have received was a question-and-answer document they sent through the union.”

SA Rugby president Mark Alexander said the governing body could not comment.

“We have been served with lawyer’s letters by suite holders, and the matter is now with our legal department, so the matter is now sub judice,” he said.
