SC signs Mou to advance sustainability efforts for future events

Doha: As part of its continued efforts towards enriching Qatar’s sustainability legacy, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Seashore Group – a Qatari business group with expertise in multiple fields including cutting-edge environmental solutions.

Building on SC’s sustainability framework, the partnership will see both organisations work together on several on-the-ground initiatives to promote enhanced understanding and application of sustainable practices at the workplace and mega-events. These include effective waste management and composting solutions, as well as environmental awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging greener workplace practices. The SC will also draw on Seashore Group’s expertise, including use of the Seashore Tadweer AI application, and dedicated site visits to explore smarter environmental practices at the workplace. forumteam.blog

The SC and Seashore Group collaboration will also extend to mega-events hosted in the future, with initiatives such as responsible waste disposal and raising environmental awareness amongst fans and the wider community.

The MoU was signed by SC Sustainability & Legacy Executive Director Eng. Thani Al Zarraa and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Seashore Group Sager Saeed Al Muhanadi at a ceremony held in Doha.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Al Zarraa said: “Sustainability has been at the heart of all major events we continue to host. This partnership with Seashore Group allows us to build on that legacy, in line with the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030, as we continue to work towards a sustainable future for Qatar. As industry leaders, the Seashore Group is an ideal partner for the SC in ensuring we deliver sustainable events that create a long lasting legacy for the country and beyond.”

On his part, Al Muhanadi added: “We are delighted to partner with the SC on both the corporate and event level, and playing a role in supporting the SC’s exemplary record in delivering world-class events. Sustainability is a core part of how we operate as an organisation, and we look forward to contributing our expertise to help Qatar continue setting the standard for environmentally responsible events in the future.”

Since delivering the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which set new standards for sustainability in sport, Qatar has continued to host a series of mega-sporting events built on a foundation of environmental stewardship. Qatar and the SC have been widely recognised for their sustainability efforts in the delivery of a number of major events, including the promotion of efficient energy use and responsible resource management.

The Seashore Group is one of the fastest growing and the largest multifaceted business groups in Qatar. Since being established in 1989, the company has taken part in a number of corporate social responsibility initiatives reflecting their commitment to building a sustainable ecosystem in Qatar.

Munich, Germany: Bundesliga club RB Leipzig have sacked coach Ole Werner after just one season in charge, despite leading them to a third-placed finish and Champions League football next season.

"We have spent the past few days carrying out a thorough final review of the recent season," the club's sporting director Marcel Schafer said in a statement on Wednesday.

"On Tuesday evening, we decided that a change of head coach was needed."

He added: "We believe the challenges ahead require new ideas and a different approach."

The identity of Werner's successor has not been disclosed, although German media are pointing to Argentine Martin Demichelis, who took over on the Mallorca bench in March but was unable to prevent the club's relegation to Spain's second division.

Werner was the third coach in the space of 14 months at RB Leipzig, who missed European competition last season for the first time since their promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016.

Towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign, the club dismissed Marco Rose with Zsolt Loew serving as interim coach before Werner was appointed.

وفي اليوم السابق، أقرّت قيادة «فيفا»، عقب اجتماع طارئ لكبار مسؤوليها في المغرب، بوجود «أخطاء» وقدمت «اعتذارات» عن خطتها الفاشلة لإنشاء كيان تجاري مفتوح أمام المستثمرين الأجانب.

شهدت مسيرة المهاجم المصري الشاب حمزة عبد الكريم، البالغ من العمر 18 عامًا، انطلاقة استثنائية عقب تألقه في كأس العالم تحت 17 سنة FIFA قطر 2025™️، إذ يستعد لخوض أول مشاركة له في كأس العالم FIFA 2026™️.

وتُقام النسخة المقبلة من البطولة خلال الفترة من 11 يونيو إلى 19 يوليو في الولايات المتحدة وكندا والمكسيك، وتشهد مشاركة تاريخية لثمانية منتخبات عربية، هي: قطر والجزائر والعراق والأردن والمغرب والسعودية وتونس ومصر.

ويلعب عبد الكريم في مركز رأس الحربة ضمن القائمة النهائية للمنتخب المصري المكونة من 26 لاعبًا، حيث يتواجد إلى جانب قائد المنتخب وأحد أبرز نجوم كرة القدم العربية والعالمية محمد صلاح، في مشهد يجسد لقاء جيلين من نجوم الكرة المصرية على الساحة العالمية.

وأسفرت قرعة البطولة عن وقوع منتخب مصر في المجموعة السابعة إلى جانب منتخبات بلجيكا وإيران ونيوزيلندا، على أن يستهل مشواره بلقاء منتخب بلجيكا يوم 15 يونيو، الساعة 10:00 مساءً بتوقيت الدوحة على استاد لومين فيلد بمدينة سياتل الأمريكية.

وبدأت رحلة اللاعب الشاب نحو المنتخب الأول بعد ظهوره المميز في كأس العالم تحت 17 سنة FIFA قطر 2025™️، والتي شكلت محطة مفصلية في مسيرته الدولية.

وقال عبد الكريم في تصريح خاص للجنة المنظمة للبطولة: كانت المشاركة في كأس العالم تحت 17 سنة في قطر تجربةً لن تُنسى؛ فلأول مرة في حياتي أشعر حقًا بأنني على مسرح عالمي. شدة المنافسة، الضغط، والفخر بتمثيل بلدي، كلها عوامل اجتمعت لتجعل مني لاعبًا أكثر نضجًا وخبرة.

وجذبت أهدافه الحاسمة خلال البطولة أنظار كشافي الأندية الأوروبية الكبرى، الأمر الذي مهّد لانتقاله من النادي الأهلي المصري إلى نادي برشلونة الإسباني.

وبعد انضمامه إلى الجانب الإسباني، أثبت عبد الكريم جدارته بعدما سجل ثلاثية مع فريق الشباب، حاسمًا بذلك لقب المجموعة الثالثة من دوري الإسباني للشباب.

وأضاف: كان الانضمام إلى نادي برشلونة حلمًا طالما راودني، وكأس العالم تحت 17 سنة في قطر كان له دور لا يُنكر في تحقيق هذا الحلم. فقد أتاح لي هذا الحدث فرصة استعراض قدراتي أمام أفضل الأندية على مستوى العالم، وأثبت أنني قادر على تقديم أفضل ما لدي وتحمّل ضغوط المنافسة في أعلى مستوياتها. كما أن المنافسة أمام نخبة المواهب الصاعدة العالمية منحتني ثقة كبيرة.

وسجلت بطولة كأس العالم تحت 17 سنة FIFA قطر 2025™ إنجازًا تاريخيًا باعتبارها أول بطولة كأس عالم تضم 48 منتخبًا، حيث شارك فيها 1,008 لاعبًا ناشئًا خاضوا 104 مباريات على مدار المنافسات.

واحتضن مجمع أسباير زون للمنافسات جميع مباريات البطولة عبر ثمانية ملاعب ضمن نموذج استضافة مركزي شكّل ركيزة أساسية لتجربة الكشافين، وشهدت البطولة حضور 130 كشافًا من أبرز الأندية العالمية، مما أتاح لهم متابعة المواهب الواعدة في مكان واحد.

Arlington, United States: Japan fans left the stands spotless after their World Cup opener against the Netherlands in Texas on Sunday, saying it was "Japanese culture" to tidy up after themselves.

Spectators stayed behind after the 2-2 draw to make sure they left the stadium as they found it, meticulously picking up litter and stuffing it into blue plastic bags.

It is a habit first learned at primary school and Japan fan Eita Tanaka told AFP that "we have to think about everyone".

"Japanese people think that when we use a certain place, we were told that you have to make that place look tidier when you leave than it was when you arrived," said the 20-year-old, clasping a bottle and a couple of cups, and wearing Japan's blue shirt.

"For example, at school in our classrooms we tidy it up after ourselves without our teacher telling us."

Japan are appearing at their eighth straight World Cup and their fans' cleanliness has become their international calling card.

NFL quarterback Jameis Winston could even be seen joining in the clean-up after Sunday's game, wearing a blue Japan shirt with his name on the back.

Japan fan Futo Hagiwara said he was proud that the behaviour of his countrymen had been recognised in a positive light.

"This is our culture, that means everywhere we go we need to clean it after ourselves, it's our spiritual way, our attitude," he said.

Sociologist and philosopher Masachi Ohsawa believes a mix of social responsibility and peer pressure is behind the fans' behaviour.

"While Japanese people tend not to take much interest in justice on a large scale -- issues like global inequality, conflict or climate change -- they are extremely sensitive to moral considerations on a smaller scale," he said.

"When it comes to people who they share the same space with or have direct personal contact with, they feel a strong desire not to cause them any trouble or make them feel uncomfortable."

School of life

Cleaning chores are a part of Japanese education from an early age, and children can be seen scrubbing floors and tables at schools every day.

Public waste bins are scarce in the country, and people are expected to take their rubbish home with them.

Getting rid of household waste can be a labyrinthine task that involves separating rubbish into different categories.

Scott North, emeritus professor of sociology at the University of Osaka, said he and his neighbours get together twice a year to pull out weeds and rake up cuttings.

He said such groups are organised into leaders and followers, and operate in a similar way to Japanese football supporters.

"Since everyone comes together, there's an expectation that they'll act as a group," said North, an American who has lived in Japan for about 40 years.

"And when the leaders break out the bags and say here you go, nobody is going to say no."

Sociologist Ohsawa said such behaviour could be explained by what Japanese people refer to as "reading the air".

"In Japan, even if one person starts picking up litter, those around them feel they simply cannot help but join in," he said.

"That's because if they don't, the people they are with will think they are a bad person."

He said peer pressure was a powerful social force.

"In this case, the primary motivation isn't so much a desire to keep the stadium clean or to avoid causing trouble for the people who have to clean the stadium afterwards," he said.

"It's more a desire not to be seen as a nuisance in one's own group."

Whatever the reasons, Japan's fans will keep tidying up for as long as they stay in the tournament.

Their next game is against Tunisia in Mexico on Saturday, and fan Hagiwara is happy to keep leading by example.

"We usually don't tell children they should do it," he said.

"We just show our actions and behaviour, and other people follow."
